Identifying local chapter media spokespeople is imperative to raising SCORE brand awareness within your community. It’s also important to keep that list UPDATED to ensure you’re capturing current, fresh and active spokespeople to serve as the voice of your chapter. Below are general best practices to keep your list updated and in great shape!
- Send a yearly (or cadence of your choosing) email to your list to ensure they’re still active within the chapter and want to be spokespeople.
- Do an audit of your list to determine where it could improve. Ask yourself if you have a well-rounded list of spokespeople that represent a wide array of subject matter expertise, different business types and diverse backgrounds. If not, fill in the gaps.
- Actively search for fresh faces. Don’t simply make a plan to see who should be removed from your spokesperson list – look daily for clients or volunteers who can be added to your list. Maybe it’s a great workshop speaker or a new subject matter expert, maybe you know of a small business with a unique story – reach out to determine interest in being a SCORE spokesperson for your chapter.
- Take advantage of monthly themes, celebrations or campaigns (i.e. Hispanic Heritage Month, Pride Month, Black History Month, etc.) to spotlight chapter mentors, volunteers and/or clients and add them to your spokesperson ranks.
As always, our public relations team (media@score.org) is here to provide additional guidance as needed. Thank you for sharing your chapter’s success and accomplishments!
