VolunteerMatch is a nonprofit, online service that matches prospective volunteers with organizations like SCORE. With over 19.5 million volunteers matched to nonprofit organizations, VolunteerMatch boasts they're one of the most effective tools for engaging qualified volunteers.
Each SCORE chapter has access to a localized VolunteerMatch account to recruit new volunteers. While your account can operate without additional setup, customizing it can help attract the best-fit candidates for your chapter’s needs.
July 2025 Update to Membership:
Previously, SCORE HQ funded premium VolunteerMatch memberships for all chapters, providing access to a broader set of recruitment tools.
As of July 2025, all chapters have been transitioned to the standard (free) VolunteerMatch membership rather than renewing the paid premium accounts. This change comes after careful consideration of several factors, such as the national budget, the pending VolunteerMatch merger with Idealist
You can view a full comparison of the standard and premium features here: VolunteerMatch Membership Features.
Tips to Increase Visibility on VolunteerMatch.org:
Chapters using the standard VolunteerMatch account can still effectively recruit volunteers. The following tips can help increase visibility and reach:
-
Copy an Opportunity -VolunteerMatch’s search results are structured where the most recently created opportunities appear first, and filter down from there. If an opportunity doesn’t receive many connections or they dwindle over time, it may be time to create a “new” opportunity:
-
- Open the current listing in one browser tab.
- In another tab, click Add New Opportunity and recreate the opportunity using the same content.
- Publish the new version and delete the old one.
- Now the new version will be at the top of the search results on VolunteerMatch.org.
-
-
Post Duplicate Listings with Different Zip Codes - VolunteerMatch promotes in-person opportunities to users within a 20-mile radius of the zip code entered. To expand reach:
-
- Create multiple listings for the same opportunity using different zip codes.
-
Use a generic location in the address (e.g., “Your Local Community”) and customize the city, state, and zip for each area you'd like to target.
-
-
Expand Geographic Reach with Multi-ZIP - You can increase the visibility of a listing for 90 days using the Multi-ZIP feature.
- Options include expanding coverage statewide or nationally.
- This is a feature chapters would have to fund from their local budget.
