Gift Card Policy

Due to IRS regulations, gift cards, gift certificates, and other items of cash value shall not be purchased by volunteers or on behalf of SCORE chapter operations. If you believe a situation warrants an exception to this policy, you must request a waiver IN ADVANCE by contacting the SCORE VP of Finance. If granted, you will receive a written consent. Under no circumstances may a gift card be purchased PRIOR to this waiver.

Gifts of cash value may require the volunteer to report the item to the IRS as taxable income. We encourage you to acknowledge and recognize the volunteers in other ways. For more information see our Volunteer Recognition Hub.
