Workshop Definition & Reporting Requirements

All workshops must meet the following definitions:

A workshop is an educational, training program for a group of (non-SCORE) attendees on a business-related topic. Workshops may be conducted face-to-face or by any other regularly accepted means of communication. No matter what the method or who sponsors the events, attendees must be registered and actually attend the training workshop for it to be counted.

Criteria for counting a Workshop

• Session of at least 1 hour in duration
• An agenda is part of the session
• An attendee list or sign-in sheet is required
• An evaluation sheet must be provided to attendees

Examples of Valid Workshops

• Community participants register for and attend a workshop on "How to Manage Your Small Business Finances" facilitated by a volunteer;
• A volunteer presents a training workshop on "How to Start an E-Business" at a conference sponsored by the local chamber of commerce; or
• A chapter puts on a three-day seminar on "Starting a Home-Based Business."

The following examples do NOT constitute Workshops

• Exhibiting at a trade show and simply interacting with attendees (that is considered sharing information or marketing);
• Consulting in a team of mentors for a client;
• Speaking at a local service club or a third-party sponsored event to recruit new volunteers or to provide general information; or
• Appearing on television, radio or webcast presentation on a business-related topic, for which participants do not register or where attendance is not or cannot be taken.
