Purpose:
To welcome and guide new volunteers, helping them understand SCORE’s mission, values, and culture, while fostering engagement and strengthening the chapter.
Summary of Role:
Within One SCORE, the Coach serves as a local liaison and point of contact for Provisional volunteers during their onboarding journey. The Coach is introduced after the new volunteer completes the online training modules and supports them through the next phases of onboarding, including co-mentoring and local integration
The Coach Will:
- Connect with the Provisional Volunteer to offer a warm welcome and build rapport
- Serve as a resource for questions and guidance during onboarding
- Act as Lead Mentor for at least one of the three required co-mentoring sessions
- Socialize the Provisional volunteer with Chapter Leaders and local members
- Conduct Local Orientation, providing chapter-specific insights and practices
- Collaborate with the Regional Volunteer Intake Coordinator (RVIC) to track progress and ensure onboarding milestones are met
-
Support administrative and training steps, including:
- Profile updates
- Completing the Simple Steps to Starting Your Business Workshop
- Participating in the Mentoring in Engage training session
Required Orientation:
Before serving as a Coach, you must complete a brief orientation (approximately 10 minutes). This course ensures that all volunteers begin with a shared understanding of core expectations and best practices.
Course Goals:
- Promote a shared understanding of updated Coach role expectations
- Ensure consistent knowledge and guidance across chapters
- Support a unified, high-quality Provisional volunteer experience
We encourage chapters to continue building on this foundation with local mentoring, additional context, and best practices that reflect their unique strengths.
