SCORE Support and Participation in NASA's Office of Small Business Programs Learning Series: Financial Management for Small Business
In April, 2022 NASA approached SCORE to assist with an important event:
NASA’s Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) will be conducting it’s monthly OSBP Learning Series webinar on April 20, 2022, on the subject of “Financial Management for Small Business.” We would like to request SCORE’s support and participation in this Webinar. NASA OSBP would like small businesses to become aware of the services SCORE provides to small businesses in particular small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, and service disabled veteran-owned small businesses. We would like SCORE to make a presentation during this webinar on the importance of good financial management to become a successful small business. NASA OSBP would appreciate it if SCORE would discuss the importance of good financial management planning and what training is available to assist small business.
Will Meikle of SCORE Western Connecticut quickly committed to support this effort.
NASA's Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) hosts a monthly learning series for its network of small business contractors to assist them in their development and creation of an open environment for them to do business with NASA. This session was a joint event sponsored by NASA OSBP, and co-hosted by SCORE and the FDIC. It was great to see three government backed organizations team up on this.
We had over 165 participants in the webinar and the early feedback from NASA on the satisfaction surveys is positive.
Ken Worthey, FDIC Acting Chief of Outreach Programs, provided an overview of the Money Smart for Small Business program they run, along with other financial literacy programs they offer for individuals, youth as well as businesses. I then presented a module of Financial Management for Small Business to provide the attendees the benefits of sound financial management practices, the importance of preparing and analyzing financial statements, and concluded on a module on obtaining business financing. We then opened up for a Q&A session.
We all thought it was a terrific program and all parties were pleased with the program. Thank you Will for the high profile support and impact!
