SCORE Washington DC
Congratulations to SCORE Washington DC, the 2021 SCORE Chapter of the Year! Please see below the summary of their impressive FY20, written by Ed Coleman, District Director of the MD/DC District.
"The Washington DC Chapter (001) is consistently a top contributing Chapter in the SCORE network. Over the past several years, the DC Chapter has consistently ranked in the Top 5 Chapters in the number and quality of Total Client Services delivered, increased the satisfaction of Chapter Volunteers, and expanded its outreach into the local community.
The Chapter strongly supports One SCORE. By participating in leadership roles at the National level, collaborating and interacting with SCORE Headquarters, the District, and other chapters across the nation, the Chapter has set the example as a cohesive organization, while building the SCORE brand and helping to provide a consistent client experience. As the “Home Team”, the DC Chapter is often called on by SCORE Headquarters to assess and pilot new initiatives, provide program feedback, and engage in media requests. The DC Chapter, on several occasions, identified and provided Clients to present their successes to the SCORE Board of Directors. Chapter Members take pride in their role as the “Home Team” and consider the requests reinforcement of the Chapter quality and contribution to SCORE.
Members of the Chapter have held, and continue to hold, key leadership positions at the National level. Two members have recently held positions on the SCORE Board of Advisors. Other members serve on the National Advisory Council, National Women’s Committee, National Black Committee, and National I&D Council. For the past 7 years, Chapter Members have been presenters at the National and Virtual Leadership Conferences.
Chapter Members, as a One SCORE initiative, have presented National webinars on various topics of interest to volunteers across the SCORE network, including Suzanne McGrath, Ellen Brotman, Matt Evans, Gary Salisbury, Karen Williams, and Ed Coleman.
The Chapter has been at the forefront in piloting a number of new initiatives that have been integrated into and have become standard practices and processes across the SCORE network. The Chapter was the Alpha Chapter for the new Accounting System that centralized accounting at SCORE Headquarters, eliminating over 200 disparate accounting systems. The Chapter participated in the New Mentor Resume Project that led to a standardization of the Profiles for Mentors across the SCORE Network. The DC Chapter was an early adopter of the SCORE Onboarding Project, position Classification initiative, and the Mentoring Best Practices initiatives … all have become de facto standards across the SCORE Network.
A number of the Chapter Mentors have been recognized and quoted in National publications as experts in mentoring and assisting small businesses, including Ann Lim, Hal Shelton, Ken Alozie, Karen Williams, Ed Coleman, and Len Johnson.
In 2017, the DC Chapter piloted the successful Pitch Event program with the Home Shopping Network (HSN) and its successors, resulting in several successful pitch events around the country and the creation of a Pitch Event Playbook that is adaptable to in-person and webinar formats. In 2020, Chapter 001 held its second Pitch Event that resulted in over 100 Client services and direct support, including immediate feedback on their product, access to Angel funds, and introductions to large retailers, to over 30 small businesses. The most recent national “How to Pitch” resulted in over 1,000 clients viewing the webinar and over 100 participating in Pitch Days.
In summary, as a testament to its top-tier performance, the DC Chapter is being recognized as a Diamond Chapter in 2020 for the second consecutive year, capping seven years of Platinum Level performance on the Annual SCORE Operating Review (Form 16)."
