Witten and Shared By: Michael J. Sendor Certified SCORE Mentor Buffalo-Niagara Chapter
Delaney Peters came to SCORE on May 30, 2020. He had lost his job as a sales and marketing executive at Gowanda Harley Davidson in Gowanda, NY. Delaney had had sales experience prior to Gowanda Harley at a local auto dealership. He wanted to start his own business selling and repairing various types of motorcycles other than the Harley Davidson brand.
After the first session (using Zoom), I brought in another Certified SCORE Mentor, Dennis Jewell to assist. Delany had prepared a Business Plan which was good but lacked certain items that Dennis and I coached him on. Most notably he had an issue with funding. We discussed the potential of purchasing an existing business (one in which the owner may want to retire) as well as the potential for a new franchise.
After a couple of sessions, Delaney had contacted two individuals which he knew and had the financial wherewithal to fund the project. The three joined forces to open MotoVillage on October 1st. They are specializing in electric-powered bikes. The hope is that Village of Hamburg residents (the community in which the business resides) will take advantage of the slower / quieter bikes to get around the village for fun and shopping.
Delaney followed the old Steve Jobs adage “half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.”
