SCORE Western Massachusetts joined the Latin American Business Organization to host a Capital Matchmaker event for Latino businesses at Clark University. The goal of the event was to pair Latino business owners with resources to grow their businesses. The event programming was hosted in Spanish. In attendance were local lenders and small business resource partners including SBDC, IRS, LABO, and Amplify Latinx. The day consisted of two panels with networking opportunities sprinkled throughout.
In searching for a mentor to present in Spanish, SCORE mentors Van Leichter and Len Gendron reached out to surrounding chapters, in the spirit of One SCORE. This search put them in contact with SCORE Western Massachusetts mentor Sebastian Latashen. Latashen spoke at the event to promote SCORE and our various free resources.
Following his presentation, many attendees visited the SCORE booth to connect with SCORE mentors. The success of the event grew the SCORE National Hispanic Volunteer Committee's desire to further assist small chapters in collaborating locally with members of the Hispanic community. Latashen shared from his experience that "it was also noted that being a speaker at such events, rather than just a panelist, is crucial for making a real impact on the SCORE brand". The Committee hopes to continue to support local outreach efforts everywhere regardless if a chapter has Hispanic members.
