SCORE Long Beach/South Bay cohosted an event titled Rising to the Occasion a Small Business Summit on July 26, 2023. The event was attended by 65 small businesses and stakeholders.
Long Beach has a significant Cambodian population, about 4% of the 486,000 population, the largest outside of any city in Cambodia. SCORE Long Beach/South Bay's Chapter Chair Rosemary Danon recognized that this community of small businesses was underserved which sparked the development of outreach plans created to target Cambodian small business owners. Danon built a relationship with the United Cambodian Community (UCC) in Long Beach. Together, SCORE and UCC formed plans to cohost an event for the UCC small business community. Erika L Moritsugu, the Deputy Assistant to the President and Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Senior Liaison in the Biden-Harris Administration, came to Long Beach for the organizational meeting and assisted in the planning of the event.
The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Economic Development, Lucius Martin, who spoke on the Grow Long Beach Initiative. Other speakers included Don Pin, Sayon Syprasoeut, Chad Phuong, Sitavy Thorng, Hawk Tea, Beeline Krouch, Moulino Tan, Courtney Chatterson, Sokko Kon, and Rosemary Danon.
