Cape Cod Pitch to Grow

Friday October 21, 2022, SCORE, along with its partners Coastal Community Capital, Cape Cod Young Professionals, Amplify POC and International Business Relations, put on a terrific event at Cape Cod Beer. Eight judges evaluated 8 small business owners as they launched their “pitch” to grow their business. These 8 were selected from a larger group of over 20 applicants. Tara Vargas-Wallace, CEO of Amplify POC, served as the M.C. There were about 100 people in the audience!

There was a wide array of contestants. All applicants were either a minority- or woman-owned business. The businesses were: Moontide Massage, Aundria’s Kitchen, Cape Cod Cleaning, A Noticia USA, Buttercup Café, Big Tree Video, Seaside Bridal Salon and M&L Landscaping. Each person had five minutes to present their pitch and then answered questions from the judges. Many of these presenters mentioned that had never done such a thing before, so it was a good opportunity for them to learn how to make an impressive, oral presentation. SCORE mentors Pam Anderson, John Campbell, Marc Goldberg, Mim Goldberg, Mark Lowenstein, John Reizian and Todd Richman coached the applicants.

The winners were:

• $5,000 M&L Landscaping
• $3,000 Cape Cod Cleaning
• $2,000 Big Tree Video
• $1,000 Seaside Bridal
• $750 Aundria’s Kitchen (the Audience winner)

After the winners were announced, CCYP and Coastal Community Capital announced that they were adding to the prize money and any presenter who didn’t win a prize would receive $500 for their participation. The pitches, networking, food and beer were terrific! 

While these types of events can be challenging, this one went off very smoothly. Thanks to Marc Goldberg, Mark Lowenstein, and John Campbell for spearheading this effort, and to all who participated.
